A day in the life of Kinigl

The ‘most famous’ royal hedgehog

How many of you know our famous Kinigl? ‘Clear your throat, clear your throat... Selina, what kind of question is that?’ Actually, you should be asking:’ ’Who among you doesn't know the most famous royal hedgehog, Kinigl?’

Hello, my dear friends and of course fans, this is Kinigl himself. I'm taking over the blog writing for Selina today, she deserves a break. Many of you often ask me at the Radstadt ski lift how my day is going, where I got my nice clothes, how to get such clean skin and much more. Since I'm a nice hedgehog, I'll let you in on my secrets today and take you with me for a whole day. So I would say: let's go!

Kinigl‘s morning routine:

‘The Oscar for best hedgehog goes to... The Kinigl from Radstadt’, yuhuuu, cheers the crowd, but wait a minute, why do I hear my alarm clock ringing, ... Ring ring, ring ring. Oh, so early again, if only I could sleep a few minutes longer on a Sunday. Well, let's see what's for dinner here at the Tourist office. Ah, Sonja thought of me when she was shopping, my favourite muesli is on the shelf. I always use Selina's cocoa drink as milk, but don't tell her that ;). Let's check my diary to see what I have to do today. Skiing, photo shoot with Julia, meeting Flecki and dinner at Stegerbräu. So many things to do as the star of Radstadt - it's exhausting, believe me. Okay, let's go and make ourselves pretty. By the way, I always use a special hedgehog soap that my grandma always makes for my pure hedgehog skin. I always use coconut oil for my white teeth, and I only brush my hair a little. My outfits are always tailor-made for me. Okay, I look perfect as always. Let's head to the post office so I don't miss the ski bus.

Kinigl’s day routine

We get on the ski bus and head over to the ski lift. When we get there, I see Julia waving to me from afar. Julia is my biggest fan, by the way, because she always looks forward to the photo shoots with me the most. I walk over to Julia, and she explains the procedure for today's shoot. But before we start, I pick up my ski pass and take the gondola to the top.

When I get to the top, I see a huge statue of myself, because as I said, I'm very well known here in Radstadt. If you don't meet me in person, you are welcome to take photos with the statue. Maybe I'll make you famous too 😊.

Skis on, helmet on and off I go. What could be better than making your first turns on the freshly groomed piste? From the chairlift, I can hear my fans cheering ‘Kinigl, Kinigl’ – what a great feeling!

It's almost time to head back to Julia's and get started with the shoot, but first I have to eat something. So, I stop off at the Sportalm and order a huge portion of Kaiserschmarrn (a chopped pancake dish), my favourite!
I finish the whole plate in 10 minutes and make my way down.

When I reach the bottom, I see Julia already waiting for me. Before we start the shoot, I have to powder my face a little so that I don't look so shiny in the photos. The girls understand what I mean. 😉

Today is the photo shoot at the children's ski lift. I unpack my best poses and make sure that Julia only photographs my best side. After 1.5 hours, we're finally done with the shoot. I realise that I'm pretty out of breath, so I take a break on one of the deckchairs at the Unterberg Salettl.

‘So Kinigl, get up, the children are about to come and they’ll want sweets,’ Julia says to me, shaking me. ‘Yes, I'm already up,’ I reply, half-asleep. I fill my basket with tasty sweets and wait for my little fans at the valley station.
From 12.30 pm, more and more children come to give me a hug and have their photo taken with me. Having fun in the snow with the children is my highlight of the day. I give the little ones sweets for a successful day's skiing and say goodbye again after 1.5 hours. ‘Great day Kinigl,’ Julia says to me. ‘A successful, but also very exhausting day,’ I reply. Julia nods and laughs a little. ‘I know Kinigl, being a star is very exhausting,’ she says. “Oh, I'm glad Julia understands me,” I think to myself.

I say goodbye to her and wait for the ski bus to take me home. The first thing I do when I get to the office is to see if Flecki, my best friend, is finally awake. Flecki is a late riser. He does nothing but sleep. A fact by the way: Flecki and I have known each other since we were little and have been inseparable best friends ever since. PS: For anyone who doesn't know Flecki, he's a cow and is just as much a part of the Tourist Office family as I am!

‘Flecki, Flecki wake up at last,’ I shout around the office. ‘I'm already awake Kinigl,’ is the reply I get. I look into the brochure room and see Flecki lying there with his eyes half open. ‘Come on, get up, we're going to eat at the Stegerbräu,’ I say to him. ‘Give me five minutes and I'll be there,’ Flecki says to me.

When Flecki is finally ready, we walk down to the Stegerbräu. Waiter David is already coming towards me. ‘A table for two please,’ I say to David. David leads Flecki and me to our table and hands us the menu. I eat a Wiener schnitzel and Flecki a burger. After we've eaten a delicious meal, the boss himself joins us. Today I'm treating Flecki, next time he'll have to pay 😊.

We say goodbye to everyone and make our way back home.

Kinigl's nightly routine:

When I get to the office, I wash my face again with my hedgehog soap and brush my teeth. I put my hair in a plait to keep it as soft as possible. I put on my pyjamas and then finally lie down on the couch. To fall asleep, I always watch Radstadt Tourism’s YouTube videos. That way I never have bad dreams. Before long, my eyes fall shut and of course, I'm dreaming of the Oscar stage again....

Psssst, Kinigl has fallen asleep. I hope you e njoyed the day with him. Next time I'll be writing for you again. See you soon, Seli. :).

Funfact: The radio station Ö3 recently revealed that the hedgehog is Austria's favourite wild animal. Completely understandable for me ;).
