Whether your children are sports enthusiasts, climbing freaks, adventurers,
or young explorers: In Zauchensee, they can let off steam in our mountain world, conquer summits, and experience animal adventures. Let me tell you about new mountain experiences that our Zauchi* has whispered to us!
*Zauchi is the first snowman who is not only to be found in and around Zauchensee in winter. Our
mascot can be found at the most scenic viewpoints, at special mountain experiences for the whole family, as a mascot at ski competitions, and now as a cuddly toy in the Zauchensee Shop.
The 4-summit tour in Zauchensee is one of the most beautiful and popular high-altitude tours in Salzburger Land. The circular hike makes it possible to conquer 4 peaks around Zauchensee in one day: Arche, Tagweidegg, Schwarzkopf and Gamskogel.
In addition, the Gamskogelbahn lift can either be used as an ascent aid before your hike or as a valley taxi after the tour. With your lift ticket, which is best purchased in advance in the World Cup Arena, you will receive your 4-summit tour pass, in which you can record each of your four summit victories directly at the summit cross.
Once you have successfully completed all four peaks and entered them in your tour pass, you can exchange it for a souvenir of the 4-summit tour at the Gamskogelhütte or in the World Cup Arena.
Please note: Due to its length and a challenging section around the Schwarzkopf, which requires surefootedness, the 4-summit tour is only recommended for adults and older, experienced schoolchildren or teenagers.
Our Zauchi stands for family-friendly mountain experiences in both summer and winter. With the youngest hiking and nature fans in mind, Zauchi has come up with a brand-new hiking challenge for summer 2024: Zauchi's summit tour for kids.
The hike is perfect for young explorers who love hiking and are looking for a fun challenge. The tour leads from the Gamskogel Hut up to the summits of Arche and Tagweidegg, where not only impressive panoramas await the little mountain enthusiasts: when you buy a lift ticket in the World Cup Arena, your kids will receive their own collector's pass in which they can enter their markers on the two summits.
When they present their double-punched summit pass at the Gamskogel Hut or at the lift ticket office in the World Cup Arena after their masterly achievement, they will receive a reward devised by Zauchi!
Please note: Although Zauchi's summit tour is suitable for children, it is not a easy stroll. The entire tour takes about 2 to 2.5 hours and requires surefootedness.
Climbing with chamois, long jumping with deer, playing hide and seek with ptarmigans, balancing with squirrels ...: One of the favourite excursion destinations for children is the animal adventure playground at the Gamskogel Hut in Zauchensee. Not only the most unusual play stations await you here, but also the “Meistercup der Alpentiere” Alpine Animal Champion Cup.
The play equipment is made from local natural materials and encourages children's natural thirst for knowledge and urge to move. Your kids will also get to know our local mountain animals: They can playfully discover the world of Gabi the chamois, Heinz the deer, Egon the squirrel and co. at the adventure playground, the Champion Cup arena, as well as on 3 circular trails around the Gamskogel Hut. The entire tour takes about 2 to 2.5 hours and requires surefootedness.
New in summer 2024: Mimi, the marmot and Ambrosia the ant.

Tip: If you purchase summer tickets for the Gamskogel lift, you will receive the official Champion Cup game pass for your children at the lift ticket office in the World Cup Arena. The little mountain fans can use it to record their successes in the animal challenges. Your kids will receive a small reward for completing the game pass at the Gamskogel Hut or at the lift ticket office in the World Cup Arena!
Exercise makes you hungry - so it's good that the kids' adventure playground is right next to the Gamskogel Hut. And all the better that the most beautiful hikes and high-altitude tours start, end or pass right by the Gamskogel Hut.
The popular mountain restaurant is located right next to the Gamskogel lift mountain station and is open until 1st September on the days the Gamskogel lift is in operation from 9 am to 4 pm (i.e. every day except when it rains). Fresh food is prepared daily in the restaurant kitchen - look forward to regional delicacies from mountain breakfasts and lunchtime specialities to hiking snacks!
You can also enjoy special culinary mountain experiences with your family at the Gamskogel Hut - whether with kids or just with your partner – it’s up to you:
- Early morning mountain breakfast every Saturday in July & August from 7.30 am. The Gamskogelbahn chairlift starts early at 7.30 am on Saturdays in dry weather to take you and your loved ones up to the Gamskogel Hut. A mountain breakfast that leaves nothing to be desired awaits you there. Perfect for a relaxing day in the mountains! (Suitable for children and families, no pre-booking necessary)
- Your sunrise on the mountains. On the 4th and 18th of August, the Gamskogel lift takes you up to the Gamskogel Hut before dawn (from 5 am). There you will experience the sunrise on the mountains with a campfire and alpine music - an unforgettable, moving natural spectacle! Afterwards, a delicious breakfast awaits you and your loved ones at the Gamskogel Hut. (Suitable for children and families, the sunrise trip with mountain breakfast is exclusively limited to 100 people. To ensure your participation, simply book by email: bergbahnen@zauchensee-amade.at by 12 pm on the Friday before the event).
I'll let you in on a secret: after a hike, I particularly look forward to stopping off at the Gamskogel Hut. To an ice-cold, sparkling apple juice, coffee and curd cheese strudel, a hearty snack and, above all, to putting my feet up and sunbathing on the large terrace.
