In recent years Filzmoos has put a special focus on running and hiking in the mountains. There is a large selection of trails and routes, and the infrastructure has been specially adapted to the needs of trail runners and mountaineers. Its network of power spots has also attracted attention far beyond Austria's borders.
Filzmoos, in the heart of the Salzburger Sportwelt, is ideal for trail running with its network of well over 250 kilometres of trails with 6 permanent trails. No wonder the place attracts runners from all over the world year after year, who pursue their passion amidst the mountain backdrop of the Bischofsmütze and Dachstein mountains.
Filzmoos trail runner Ricardo Götschel enjoys the beautiful mix of trails and forest paths and recommends the "Arzbergalm – Aualm Trail". The technically rather undemanding route is particularly suitable for beginners. More experienced trail runners can extend the tour to the Gerzkopf if desired.
Route description:
Ricardo recommends starting the tour right in the centre of Filzmoos heading in the direction of Neuberg. Up to Neuberg, you can expect a nice mixture of trail and forest paths, characterised by an inclining altitude profile. Once you arrive in Neuberg, you will be faced with an approx. 1.5 kilometre tarmac road to Kohlegg. From here you can put your trail running skills to the test on a slightly ascending forest path to the Arzbergalm. The trail to the Aualm offers wonderful single trails with a magnificent view! Shortly before the Aualm (approx. kilometre 13), there is a watering hole to fill your water bottles (mountain stream). From the Aualm, you continue on a brisk forest path – downhill to the Marcheggsattel and then downhill to the Hofalm toll road. Cross the road and enjoy the last few kilometres on the hiking trail towards Filzmoos. A stop for refreshments is optional at the Arzbergalm, and at the Aualm too.
